Student-recommended speaker to address addiction
Cortney Lovell will speak about addiction and
recovery at Schoharie High School on Nov. 10, and 8th through 12th-grade
students will hear a speaker who is "powerful, intense and hopeful,"
according to their younger peers.
"Our 7th graders had the opportunity to hear Ms.
Lovell at the Girls and Boys Day Out field trip, and they felt it would
be a great presentation for the entire Jr./Sr. High School community,"
said Schoharie High School Principal Kevin Calacone. "Lovell is an
emerging leader whose passion is to help others discover the depth of
their potential through recovery."
Lovell is a member of the New York State
Governor's Opioid Task Force and has been a speaker with the Governor's
Combat Heroin Campaign.
"Our district is committed to providing
opportunities for our students to understand the grip addiction can have
on themselves, their family, their friends and their community, and its
impact on those relationships," Calacone said. "We appreciate support of
