Student-recommended speaker to address addiction

Cortney Lovell will speak about addiction and recovery at Schoharie High School on Nov. 10, and 8th through 12th-grade students will hear a speaker who is "powerful, intense and hopeful," according to their younger peers.

"Our 7th graders had the opportunity to hear Ms. Lovell at the Girls and Boys Day Out field trip, and they felt it would be a great presentation for the entire Jr./Sr. High School community," said Schoharie High School Principal Kevin Calacone. "Lovell is an emerging leader whose passion is to help others discover the depth of their potential through recovery."

Lovell is a member of the New York State Governor's Opioid Task Force and has been a speaker with the Governor's Combat Heroin Campaign.

"Our district is committed to providing opportunities for our students to understand the grip addiction can have on themselves, their family, their friends and their community, and its impact on those relationships," Calacone said. "We appreciate support of our endeavors to educate and empower our youth to make informed decisions."

Parents/guardians with questions or concerns may contact their child's guidance counselor at (518) 295-6611.
