Positive behavior earns students safe rides on new wheels

Schoharie Elementary students with Principal Polikoski

During the recently ended school year, Schoharie Elementary students did a great job learning the four B's - Be respectful, Be responsible, Be safe and Be a Community - that are the foundation of the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program at their school. Two lucky students are now enjoying safe rides on new sets of wheels thanks to their positive behavior.

Through PBIS, which was launched during 2015-16, students could earn Buckle Bucks by fulfilling the B's and then redeem them for prizes or tickets for drawings. "At the end of the year, all student names were put in for a drawing for bicycles and helmets to celebrate what a positive year we had with the students," said Elementary Principal Andrea Polikoski. "Congratulations to drawing winners Madison Hoop (5th grade) and Logan Schrader (kindergarten)!

"Thank you to the EPTSO for donating the money to purchase the bicycles. We are looking forward to our September kickoff of our 2nd year of PBIS at Schoharie Elementary."

The Buckle Bucks earned by students for good behavior are named in honor of Schoharie Central School District's therapeutic classroom dog, Buckles.
