Reminder about importance of social media safety

The Schoharie County Sheriff’s Office has charged a Gilboa man with sending inappropriate material to minors over social media and endangering the welfare of a child. This individual may have had contact with Schoharie students. We have been cooperating with the Sheriff’s Office in an ongoing investigation.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to talk with their children about the safe use of social media and their interactions with others on the Internet. Students also should be encouraged to talk to a responsible adult such as their parent, guardian, school counselor or administrator any time they are concerned or uncomfortable about a communication or interaction.

Our school works closely with our students’ families, law enforcement and community agencies to keep our students safe at all times. Our school counselors provide supportive services and are available to answer student questions and address concerns. Our recent guest speakers have included a State Police Investigator, addiction prevention specialists and a motivational speaker on personal responsibility.

Anyone with concerns or information regarding the recent incident should contact the Schoharie County Sheriff’s Office at (518) 295-8114. School-related questions should be directed to Superintendent Blanchard at (518) 295-6679.

Superintendent Blanchard sent a letter home on March 30 with the above information. DOWNLOAD THE LETTER
